Sky Meadows State Park is one of the most attractive hikes I have accomplished since I returned to the United States
The Start Point is the 1763 Inn on Route 50 less than a mile south of the Route 17/ Route 50
intersection. Great German food, delightful German beer as well.
1763 Inn Link
From D.C. take I-66 west to exit 23. Follow the Route 17 North for eight miles, passing Sky
Meadows State Park on your left. At the stop light, turn right on Route 50. Follow Route 50 for 1.44 miles. The inn is on your your right. There is a small flag on the sign indicating if the inn is open. The box is located under the counter just at the head of the stairs. After registering,
you will drive to Sky Meadows to start the walk.
Sky Meadows State Park Link
The registration point is open all year, 8am to 6pm. Park is open all year, 0800 to dusk.
May be closed due to incementweather. Call Sky Meadows State Park to confirm trail access if
questionable weather. There is a park entrance fee. The trail is not suitable for strollers
and wheelchairs. The Mount Bleak Ramble is an increditable blend of pastures and woodlands.
Pets must be leashed at all times. Terrain includes natural surface trails, rocky hiking
trails and adjacent pastures. Inclement weather will increase trail rating. There is an
elevation change of 600 feet. Recommend walking stick, hiking boots and walking with a buddy. No potable water on trail.
Twelve primitive hike-in campsites accommodate up to six persons each. Reservations are recommended. Call 1-800-933-PARK.
Please carry water, Park Trail Host (Yours Truly) is grouchy about sharing waterthat he has lugged to top of trail.
