Plans for the first ever "Volksball" event in the Atlantic Region, and maybe even the AVA, are complete and the event brochure is appearing at local volkssporting events in the area. The event is a combination of a 10 kilometer walk, an all you can eat and drink picnic, and a professional baseball game between the Prince William Cannons and the Kinston Indians of the Carolina League. Scheduled for SUNDAY, August 9, 1998, the event promises to be both exciting for all participants and a great marketing opportunity for all Atlantic Region clubs.
The walk will begin at the G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium, located in Woodbridge, Virginia, anytime between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. ALL PARTICIPANTS must pre-register for the event and the single registration fee of $27.00 per person includes the event credit and distance stamps, the picnic, parking, and reserved seating for the ballgame. In addition, each participant will receive a volkssporting unique T-shirt.
Participants are required to pre-register so that the necessary food and tickets can be arranged and one lucky participant will be selected to throw out the ball to open the game. Pre-Registration Closes on JULY 27, 1998! There will be no start table at the event. All participants are encouraged to wear their local club T-shirt to the event and clubs should bring their club banner for display. Naturally, participants are welcomed from all regions and we would hope that you would wear your club shirts - this is an event celebrating volksmarching. The event is being hosted by the Pentagon Pacesetters.
If you are coming from outside a commuting distance of Woodbridge, we can provide you with hotel recommendations at "Volkssporter Rates" and can provide transportation for those that fly in to attend the event ( Reagan (National) airport to hotel to game and back to hotel or airport). At the moment there are no scheduled weekend events in the area and the Pacesetters will put together a package of several of the really outstanding YRE's in the area for your pleasure and have the packets available at your hotel. The packets will include both the historic Mount Vernon and Huntley Meadows events and the very popular Washington Monuments walk and many others of interest.
If you have not located an event brochure, you can write to the Pacesetters at 5505 Helmsdale Lane, Alexandria, VA 22315 and one will be provided. However, you can pre-register by sending a check, made payable to the Pentagon Pacesetters, to the same address, with fees being $27.00 per participant. Please provide the full name of each participant, their shirt size (M, L, XL, 2XL), and the age of each participant under 13 (there will be a small refund for participants under 13 but it cannot be determined at this time and the refunds will be included in your registration packets). We would also appreciate a telephone number for each participant so that the winning person can be notified, prior to the game, that they were selected to toss out the opening game ball. Pets are not permitted at this event for fear that they will chase balls at the game - we are taking a chance in assuming "volkssporters" don't chase balls but we have seen a few chase cars.
If you have any questions, you may call our POC at 703-922-1885 any day between 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM. Although there is an answering machine, there is no pre-recorded message.
